For the past eleven years, Dr. Kevin E. James has served as a higher education administrator, academician, and motivational speaker. He serves as Campus Dean of Strayer University, Columbus, Georgia campus where he is the chief academic officer, responsible for supervising academic quality and the overall academic direction of the campus. He also ensures that the campus maintains high standards and is in compliance with all accrediting and licensing agencies. Kevin joined Strayer University after serving in several capacities ranging from administration to classroom instruction at various higher education institutions including University of Pennsylvania, Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College, Midlands Technical College, and University of Phoenix.
Throughout his career, Dr. James has held several positions in higher education, including Associate Program Dean, Full-time Faculty Member, Director of Student Support Services & TRIO Programs, and College Recruitment Manager.
Dr. James is a native of Columbia, South Carolina, where he grew up. He received his bachelor's degree in communication disorders and social sciences from Winthrop University, continuing on to garner a master's degree from Troy State University, and then posted a doctorate in education and higher education leadership from Nova Southeastern University. He is also a graduate of the Higher Education Institutes at Harvard University.
In addition to his extensive background in higher education, Dr. James has taught Business and Education courses at Strayer University and Northcentral University, respectively, and has served on dissertation committees in Education. He is the CEO of Kevin James Unlimited Education Group, LLC, a private higher education consulting firm, and has also consulted with numerous colleges and universities in areas of admissions, academic program planning, and enrollment management. Additionally, he prides himself in helping others obtain a higher education and relevant training to become successfully employed. Dr. James plans to continue his career in higher education with his 10-15 year goal resulting in a college presidency.
Dr. James is extensively committed to community service and has membership in numerous fraternal organizations/associations, including Kappa Kappa Psi National Honorary Band Fraternity Incorporated, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Incorporated, the Prince Hall Masonic Fraternity including the Holy Royal Arch, Royal and Select Masters, Knights Templar, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, PHA Southern Jurisdiction (32°), Ancient Egyptian Arabic Order Nobles of the Mystic Shrine of North and South America (Shriners), and Order of the Eastern Star. Additionally, he is a member of Kappa Delta Pi International Honor Society in Education, South Carolina Technical Education Association (SCTEA), American College Personnel Association (ACPA), and 100 Black Men of America.
